Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has highlighted her ongoing efforts on environmental protection, recognition of social work, and advocacy for women’s history through a series of posts on her official account.

On July 22, 2025, Scholten expressed appreciation for student activists from Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and Citizens’ Climate Lobby: “Thanks to the @GVSU students from @citizensclimate who are fighting for a better, greener future. I’m determined to protect Michigan’s water, air, and environment for generations to come, and it’s crucial to have our young leaders as partners in these efforts.”

Later that evening, Scholten referenced her background in social work while acknowledging an award she received: “My experience as a social worker strongly influences my work in Congress, and I was honored to accept the School Social Work Association of America Award as Social Work Legislator of the Year.” This statement follows her longstanding professional connection to social work prior to her tenure in Congress.

The following day, on July 23, 2025, Scholten addressed the importance of women’s history within American heritage: “Women’s history IS American history. I’m leading fellow @DemWomenCaucus colleagues to call for full funding of the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum in Washington as a testament to how far we’ve come.”

Scholten has served Michigan’s 3rd district since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. She was born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College (2004) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2011).
