Scholten, born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has used her position in Congress to focus on local community development and environmental stewardship.

In a tweet posted on April 22, 2025, Scholten announced, “My new Health Care Advisory Board is the next step in my ongoing partnership with health care providers throughout West Michigan—one that brings together some of the most innovative and compassionate health care minds in the country who serve right here in West Michigan.”

Later the same day, she underscored the importance of healthcare accessibility, tweeting, “Without access to high-quality health care, our neighbors can’t thrive. I was pleased to tour @TrinityHealthMI’s facility in Muskegon to reinforce my support for the health care centers that serve our community and learn more about the good, hard work being done there.”

In celebration of Earth Day, Scholten posted, ” Happy Earth Day, West Michigan! I’m celebrating today with @Calvin_Uni’s Plaster Creek Stewards. We planted native species to help restore a recently developed site. Their efforts are helping protect our water, strengthening our ecosystem, and showing what local stewardship.” This highlights Scholten’s engagement in environmental restoration activities aimed at improving local ecosystems.

Hillary Scholten, who graduated with a BA from Gordon College in 2004 and a JD from the University of Maryland in 2011, remains based in her birthplace of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
