FSU women’s golf starts NCAA D2 Nationals with strong performance

The Ferris State University women’s golf team began their campaign at the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championships with a team score of 314 on Tuesday in Boulder City, Nevada. This marks the Bulldogs’ first appearance in the national finals in 16 years, positioning them 18th overall as they enter the second round of play in the 54-hole stroke play event.

The championships are being held at Boulder Creek Golf Club and feature the top 18 teams from across the nation. Ferris State is one of five teams representing the East Regional after securing third place in Allendale last week.

Leading after day one are Cal-State St. Mary’s and Anderson (S.C.), both achieving a team score of 280, followed closely by Flagler with a score of 281.

Ferris State’s Kylie Walker led her team on day one, finishing tied for 59th place with a round of 75. Ashley Thomasma recorded a score of 76, tying for 69th place, while Lizzie Anderson finished with an 80, placing her tied for 90th overall. Kamryn Shannon ended her round with an 83, tying for 95th position, and Susie Gietl scored an 85 to stand at 98th.

The competition continues on Wednesday with day two play, followed by the final stroke play round on Thursday. The top eight teams post-Thursday will advance to head-to-head quarterfinals starting Friday.

This year marks FSU’s tenth trip to the national championship finals and their first since 2009.
