Ferris State University’s women’s golf team began their participation in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships in eighth place after the first round on Monday at The Meadows Golf Course, Allendale. The Bulldogs recorded a team score of 316, placing them at +28 for the initial round of the 54-hole event hosted by Grand Valley State University. A total of 18 schools are competing.

Grand Valley State leads with a team score of 290, followed by Findlay (296), Tiffin (306), and Indianapolis (306). Ferris State is four shots behind Missouri-St. Louis, which holds fifth place with a score of 312.

Kamryn Shannon from Ferris State is tied for 14th place overall with a first-round score of 76. Ashley Thomasma and Susie Gietl both scored 79, tying them for 30th on the leaderboard. Kylie Walker and Lizzie Anderson each scored an 82, placing them tied for 63rd after day one.

The second round will take place on Tuesday in Allendale, with the final round scheduled for Wednesday. All participants will compete through all three rounds, with the top five teams from the East Region advancing to the national championships along with the top two individuals not part of an advancing team. The national championships are set for May 13-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

This marks Ferris State’s fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regional Championships. Three years ago, they finished 11th at this event during their first postseason trip since finishing fourth overall in regional championships in 2014. Previously, Ferris State made thirteen consecutive NCAA appearances from 2002 to 2014.

The Bulldogs have won regional championships twice before—in the seasons of 2003-04 and 2006-07—and achieved runner-up status four times between those years.
