Ferris State University’s women’s golf team significantly improved its performance on the second day of the NCAA Division II National Championships in Boulder City, Nevada. On Wednesday, May 14, the team reduced its score by 29 strokes from the first round, achieving a score of 285 after an initial round of 314. This placed Ferris State tied for 16th overall with a total score of 599 as they head into the final round.

The Bulldogs will compete in their last round on Thursday, May 16, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. The top eight teams after this round will move forward to the medal match play national quarterfinals.

Currently leading is Cal-State San Marcos with a score of 564, followed by Dallas Baptist at 567 and Anderson at 569.

Individually for Ferris State, Kylie Walker is tied for 36th place with scores of 75 and 71 in her first two rounds, totaling 146 over 36 holes. Ashley Thomasma and Lizzie Anderson are both tied for 67th place with totals of 150 each. Thomasma scored a consistent improvement from her first-round score of 76 to a second-round score of 74. Anderson notably improved from an opening round of 80 to carding a remarkable second-round score of 70.

Kamryn Shannon is tied for 83rd place with a total score of 153 after shooting a second-round score of 70 following an initial round of 83. Susie Gietl stands at position number ninety-two with a total tournament score of one hundred sixty-three; she shot seventy-eight on day two after beginning with eighty-five in the first round.

This marks Ferris State’s first appearance in the national finals since two thousand nine and their tenth overall in school history. The final day promises further competition as they strive to advance.
