The Ferris State University women’s golf team won its sixth Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship on April 19 at Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta, Michigan. The Bulldogs defeated Grand Valley State University in the final round with a score of 3.5-1.5 to secure the league title.
This achievement is significant as it marks Ferris State’s second conference championship in four years, highlighting their ongoing success within the GLIAC. The victory adds to a history of championships for the program, which previously won titles in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, and most recently in 2023.
During the tournament’s stroke play portion, Ferris State finished second overall but advanced to the finals where they faced Grand Valley State. In head-to-head medal match play, Isabel Kelly secured an early point for Ferris State by beating Heida Rakel Rafnsdottir by one stroke. Ashley Thomasma followed with a three-shot win over Evelyn Park. Although Grand Valley’s Lea Stotz topped Lizzie Anderson and Kylie Walker drew against Charlotte Goersch, Kamryn Shannon clinched the title for Ferris State with a five-up win over Rachael Krieger.
Shannon also earned individual medalist honors after recording the lowest score during the tournament’s three rounds of stroke play. She finished four-over par with a +1 total of 73 on Sunday. Other notable performances included Thomasma finishing tenth and Anderson tying for eleventh place overall.
Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Golf competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference according to the official website.
