The Ferris State University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale, according to an April 25 announcement. The event featured competitors from across the region, with Ferris State athletes achieving two NCAA-qualifying performances during the meet.
This competition serves as preparation for the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Outdoor Championships. The Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Track and Field team participates at the varsity level in NCAA Division II as members of the GLIAC, according to the official website.
In women’s events, Ella Kowatch finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.83, while Whitney Farrell was runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA qualifying time of 10:47.10. Angela Kotecki placed third in long jump (17-10.75), Lizzie Haines took sixth place in the 400 hurdles (1:05.08), and Jocelyn Shattuck finished seventh in the 800 meters (2:21.93). The women’s relay teams also performed well; their 4×400-meter relay team placed second (4:03.68) and their 4×100-meter squad came fourth (48.10).
On the men’s side, Lucas Seifferlein posted a NCAA-qualifying time as runner-up in the 400 meters (47.31). Josh Langland was third in the 800 meters (1:55.60), Trevor Smith secured seventh place in both sprint events—100 meters (10.53) and 200 meters (21.33)—while Carson Guysi finished eighth in both sprints as well.
The Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Track and Field program is affiliated with Ferris State University and shares coaching staff resources with its men’s team for NCAA Division II competition per its official website. The program focuses on developing student-athletes through structured support and coaching as outlined on its official site, offering recruiting opportunities via an online questionnaire for prospective athletes according to university information.
Both teams are scheduled to return to action April 30-May 1 at Grand Valley State University for this year’s GLIAC Outdoor Championships.
