Ferris State University’s men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams achieved a combined total of 52 top-eight finishes, including four first-place results, at the Central Michigan University Chippewa Open in Mount Pleasant on April 11.

The strong performance highlights the ongoing efforts of Ferris State’s varsity-level programs to excel in NCAA Division II competition as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, according to the official website. The event saw standout performances from both squads. For the women’s team, Alexis Le was second in high jump while Maddy Biller took second in hammer throw. Other notable finishes included Raquel Hernandez placing third in discus and Olivia Denend finishing third in the 3,000 meters.

On the men’s side, Trevor Smith won both the 100 meters and 200 meters races. Jared Watchorn secured first place in the 800 meters. The Bulldogs also claimed victory in the men’s 4×100-meter relay with Blace Farrington, Carson Guysi, Charlie Sutton, and Smith posting a time of 42.00 seconds.

The Ferris State Bulldogs Women’s Track and Field program is affiliated with Ferris State University and competes alongside its men’s counterpart under a shared coaching staff for NCAA Division II events within their conference structure, per the official website. The program focuses on developing student-athletes for excellence through structured support and coaching while offering recruiting opportunities for prospective athletes via an online questionnaire available on their site.

Looking ahead, Ferris State will compete next at the Elaine Leigh Invite scheduled for April 17-18 in Rochester.
