Ferris State track opens season with strong performances at Bob Eubanks Open

Ferris State University’s indoor track and field teams began their 2025 season at the Bob Eubanks Open, hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale. The event saw several noteworthy performances from both the men’s and women’s squads.

For the Bulldog women, Daisy Englund secured fourth place in the 600 meters with a time of 1:04.20. Rebecca Marvin also achieved a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 49-10 and came ninth in the shot put, reaching 11.50 meters. Kendra Montague finished fourth in the 400 meters clocking in at 1:02.86, while Hanna Brock placed seventh in the mile run at 5:05.44 and eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:31.44. Whitney Farrell completed the same race placing tenth at 10:34.54.

The women’s relay team consisting of Olivia Malloy, Nyah Tyron, Montague, and Abigail Winkle took seventh place in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:08.05.

On the men’s side, Cooper Sorsen led Ferris State with a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters clocking an impressive time of 8:24.66. Hunter Richardson claimed seventh place in the shot put with a throw measuring 44-10.25 while Hayden Josef ended eighth in high jump clearing a height of 6-3.50 inches. Devin Dennison participated in the men’s weight throw invite section finishing eighth with a mark of 56-6.

The men’s relay team composed of Josh Langeland, Jared Watchorn, Luke Berney, and Dean Topolski secured sixth place in their category finishing at 3:26.90.

In total, four Ferris State athletes moved into top ten all-time records for their respective events within school history during this meet; Sorsen’s performance ranks him fourth all-time for his event along with Englund who is now sixth all-time for her effort on Saturday as well as Langeland who shares this spot alongside VanDam who sits seventh all-time.

Looking ahead to further competition this month they will return to Allendale on January twenty-fourth participating next at Bill Clinger Classic event taking place there then shortly thereafter again soon enough afterward too!
