Ferris State tennis teams sweep McKendree in regional matchups

Ferris State University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams achieved victories against McKendree University in regional matchups held in Indianapolis. The Bulldog women secured a 5-2 win, while the men triumphed with a 4-2 score.

“It was a great day of tennis,” stated FSU head coach Mark Doren. “We notched two wins over a very good regional opponent. There were seven three-set matches between the two and we capped it off with a huge third set clinching victory.”

The women’s team claimed the doubles point with victories from Kennedy Dumas and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer at one doubles, as well as Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Katherine Earnest at the second position. In singles play, Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer won in three sets at number one singles, Dumas triumphed at three singles, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer won 6-2, 7-5 at four singles, and Aimee Reynoso captured a three-set victory at five singles.

For the men’s team, Kevin Kovacs and Erik Kovacs secured the initial point in doubles play by winning at one doubles. Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan also contributed with a 6-3 victory at three doubles. In singles matches, Kevin Kovacs achieved a straight-set win at one singles, Erik Kovacs did likewise at four singles, and Felipe Iser clinched the match with a three-set win at five singles.

The Bulldog women improved their record to 4-1 overall this year while the men are now 3-2. Both teams will continue their weekend competition by visiting Hillsdale on Sunday for further matches.
