Ferris State tennis teams secure victories against Davenport at home

The Ferris State University tennis teams achieved notable victories over Davenport University in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday. The matches took place at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center, where the men’s team won with a close score of 4-3, and the women’s team secured a 5-2 victory.

In men’s tennis, Ferris State initially faced a setback by losing the doubles point. Despite the early challenge, the pair of Felipe Iser and Alessandro Santangelo managed a 6-2 win at the third doubles position. In the singles events, the team rallied with Kevin Kovacs achieving a three-set victory at one singles. Erik Kovacs added a win in straight sets at the third flight. Iser’s performance at the fourth spot, along with Adrian Catahan’s 6-4, 6-4 triumph at six singles, was integral to the men’s team success.

The Ferris State women’s team began strongly by winning all three doubles matches. Kennedy Dumas and Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer took the one flight, while Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso dominated their opposition with a 6-1 result at two doubles. Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Ayva Johnstone completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory.

In the singles matches, Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer excelled in the top position, contributing to the team’s success. Following her lead, FSU achieved victories in the last three singles matches. Aimee Reynoso won at four singles, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer triumphed at the fifth spot, and Katherine Earnest wrapped up the competition with a straight-set win at six singles.

The women’s team is scheduled to continue their competition at home on Sunday against Saginaw Valley State, with the match starting at noon.
