Ferris State tennis teams achieve clean sweep over Hillsdale

Ferris State University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams achieved a successful weekend, securing regional victories against Hillsdale. The matches took place on Sunday, February 16, with the women’s team winning 6-1 and the men’s team achieving a 5-2 victory.

On Saturday, both teams also defeated McKendree (Ill.) at a neutral site in Indianapolis. This marked an unbeaten weekend for Ferris State’s tennis squads.

In the women’s match against Hillsdale, Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Katherine Earnest won their doubles match 6-1 at the second flight. Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso secured a 7-5 win at the third spot. In singles play, Madi won in straight sets at two singles, Kennedy Dumas triumphed in three sets at three singles, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer was victorious 6-2, 6-2 at four singles, Reynoso won in straight sets at five singles, and Earnest clinched a three-set win at six singles.

For the men’s team, Erik Kovacs and Kevin Kovacs dominated one doubles with a 6-1 victory. Alessandro Santangelo and Kacper Pasielak won their match 7-5 at two doubles. Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan claimed a 6-2 win at three doubles. In singles competition, Kevin Kovacs won in straight sets at one singles; Santangelo did the same at two singles; Erik Kovacs achieved victory in straight sets at four singles; Catahan completed his match with a two-frame win at five singles.

The women’s team improved to an overall record of 5-1 this year following their sweep over the weekend. The men’s team now stands with a record of 4-2 after winning their last four consecutive matches.

Both teams are scheduled to compete again on Friday, February 28th against Walsh (Ohio) in regional matchups.
