Ferris State University’s men’s and women’s tennis teams faced Northwood University in closely contested regional matches on Sunday, March 2. Both teams fell short with identical scores of 4-3 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

In the women’s match, Ferris State took an early lead by securing the doubles point. Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Katherine Earnest won their match at the second flight, and a forfeit win at three doubles contributed to their advantage. In singles play, Hernandez Ferrer claimed victory in a three-set match at the number one flight. However, Northwood secured wins in the two through five spots in straight sets to clinch the overall victory. Earnest also won by forfeit at six singles for Ferris State.

The men’s team also captured the doubles point with Erik Kovacs and Kevin Kovacs winning 6-3 at the top flight, while Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan secured a 6-4 win at the third flight. Despite these efforts, Northwood emerged victorious by taking four of six singles matches, including wins at both top and bottom positions. Jose A.P. Alarcon earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at three singles for Ferris State, along with Erik Kovacs’ triumph at number four flight.

Following these narrow defeats, Ferris State’s women’s team holds a record of 5-2 overall while the men’s team stands at 4-3. Both squads are set to travel to Florida next week for spring break competitions against Florida Southern on March 10 (men’s) and St. Mary’s (Texas) on March 11 (both teams).
