Ferris State softball team sweeps doubleheader at USSSA Space Coast Spring Games

Ferris State University’s softball team commenced their spring break trip in Florida with a successful doubleheader on Wednesday, March 12, at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne. The Bulldogs secured victories against Goldey-Beacom and Thomas More.

In the first game, Ferris State achieved a 4-0 win over Goldey-Beacom. The Bulldogs recorded seven hits from seven different players, with Maddie Gkekas hitting a double. Jadyn Joseph, Jayden Marlatt, and Brooklyn Verbeek each contributed an RBI. Pitcher Ella Covill-Marter delivered a shutout performance with five strikeouts and no walks.

The second game concluded with a 3-2 victory for Ferris State against Thomas More. Both teams managed eight hits each. Marlatt stood out with two hits, including a triple. Joseph, Verbeek, and Breanna Blair hit doubles, while Joseph and Verbeek also drove in runs. Abby Meyer added a sacrifice fly to the team’s efforts.

Catherine O’Donohue pitched six innings for Ferris State, allowing one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. Cecelia Bell secured her second save of the season by conceding one run on two hits in the final inning.

The Bulldogs are set to face New Haven and D’Youville on Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m. ET and 2:30 p.m. ET respectively.
