The Ferris State University women’s softball team swept a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on March 27, winning both games on the road in Hammond, Indiana.
This result is significant as it marks the beginning of an eight-game league road series for the Bulldogs and improves their overall record to 18-13, with a conference mark of 4-2. The victories help strengthen their position in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), where they compete as an NCAA Division II program according to the official website.
In game one, Ferris State secured a 7-1 win by scoring steadily across several innings and holding Purdue Northwest to just four hits. Brenna George contributed two hits and three runs batted in, while Ava Gardner added a home run. Cecelia Bell pitched all seven innings for Ferris State, striking out seven batters and allowing only one run.
The second game saw Purdue Northwest take an early lead with three runs in the first inning and extend it to 5-1 before Ferris State rallied late. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh to claim a narrow 6-5 victory. Emily Killion had two hits for Ferris State, while Jadyn Joseph homered and drove in three runs. Four pitchers combined efforts on the mound, with Bell earning her seventh win of the season after pitching one-and-one-third scoreless innings.
The Bulldogs’ program participates in both conference and non-conference matchups during its season according to the official website. Based out of Big Rapids, Michigan according to university sources, Ferris State’s softball program also focuses on helping student-athletes balance academics with athletics while supporting school traditions as noted by its official site.
Looking ahead, Ferris State will continue its league schedule by visiting Grand Valley State for another doubleheader on March 28.
