Ferris State softball sweeps Parkside on Senior Day in GLIAC play

The Ferris State University softball team earned back-to-back wins over Parkside on April 25 during Senior Day at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids, Michigan. The Bulldogs won the first game 7-4 and followed with a 6-1 victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

The doubleheader marked a celebration for seniors Emily Killion, Jadyn Joseph, and Abby Meyer. The program takes part in both conference and non-conference games during its season, according to the official website.

In the opening game, Ferris State scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second to build an early lead. Parkside responded with runs later but could not close the gap. Ella McDonald, Alexis Kozlowski, Ava Gardner, and Emma Herremans each recorded two hits for Ferris State. Herremans drove in three runs while Gardner added two RBIs. Cecelia Bell pitched six innings for the win with ten strikeouts.

During game two, Ferris State took control by scoring four times in the third inning before adding single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Killion led offensively with two hits and three RBIs while Katie Shuboy pitched all seven innings for her tenth win of the season.

The Bulldogs’ women’s softball program competes at NCAA Division II level as part of the GLIAC according to the official website. The team also supports student-athletes as they balance academics with athletics while continuing Ferris State’s athletic heritage according to its official site.

Ferris State improved its record to 27-18 overall and 13-7 within conference play following these victories. The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Roosevelt on Sunday for another league doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
