The Ferris State University women’s softball team split a pair of games on March 12 at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida. The Bulldogs lost their opener to Goldey-Beacom by a score of 5-4 before defeating Thomas More 2-1 in the second game.
These games marked Ferris State’s return to action after a day off during their trip to Florida. Both contests were decided by one run, highlighting competitive play throughout the day.
In the first game, Ferris State tied Goldey-Beacom early but fell behind after their opponent scored two runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. Despite scoring twice in the seventh, the Bulldogs could not overcome the deficit. Ava Gardner led with two runs batted in, two runs scored, and a home run. Alexis Kozlowski contributed a double, while Emma Gillard and Jayden Marlatt each had an RBI. Pitcher Sally Leask threw eight innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, while Addison Gillard pitched two innings and gave up one run.
The second game saw Ferris State take an early lead against Thomas More and secure victory with a winning run in the seventh inning after Thomas More tied it late. Emma Herremans recorded two hits, with Gardner and Molly Versluis each driving in a run. Cecelia Bell pitched all seven innings for Ferris State, allowing just one run on seven hits.
The Ferris State Bulldogs women’s softball program takes part in conference and non-conference games during its season, according to the official website.
