The Ferris State University women’s softball team earned a split in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) doubleheader against Wayne State in Detroit on April 20. The Bulldogs won the first game 6-1 before dropping the second game 7-5.
This outcome is significant as it maintains Ferris State’s position in conference play, with the team now holding a record of 24-17 overall and 10-6 within the GLIAC. The results reflect both strong offensive performances and areas for improvement as they continue their season.
In the opening game, Ferris State recorded 13 hits while limiting Wayne State to seven. Alexis Kozlowski led with three hits and an RBI, Emma Gillard contributed two hits and three RBIs, and Emma Herremans added two more hits. Home runs came from Kozlowski, Ava Gardner, and Gillard. Pitcher Cecelia Bell threw all seven innings for the win, allowing one run on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The second contest saw Ferris State take an early lead at 5-1 before Wayne State rallied with four runs in the fifth inning to secure a comeback victory. Herremans again delivered offensively with two hits and two RBIs, while Jadyn Joseph had two hits as well. The pitching trio of Sally Leask, Addison Gillard, and Katie Shuboy combined for four strikeouts but allowed ten hits over seven innings.
The Bulldogs’ program participates in both conference and non-conference games throughout its season according to the official website.
