The Ferris State University women’s softball team split a doubleheader against the Parkside Rangers on April 4, ending their weekend road series in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 record.

The outcome reflects the team’s ongoing efforts in both conference and non-conference matchups throughout the season, according to the official website. The Bulldogs lost the first game 5-3 but responded with a commanding 15-5 victory in six innings during the second game. The games were moved from Parkside’s home field in Wisconsin to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois, due to weather and field conditions.

With these results, Ferris State improved its overall record to 21-16 and stands at 7-5 within conference play. In game one, Emma Gillard led with two hits and two runs batted in (RBIs), while Kennedy Wangler contributed two hits and an RBI. Cecelia Bell pitched all six innings for Ferris State, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.

In the second matchup, Addison Wangler and Emma Herremans each recorded three hits and four RBIs. Ella McDonald also had three hits while Ava Gardner added two doubles for the Bulldogs. Pitchers Sally Leask and Addison Gillard combined for six strikeouts over six innings of work; Gillard was credited with the win after pitching four scoreless innings.

The program supports student-athletes by encouraging academic achievement alongside athletic performance as part of Ferris State University’s sports tradition, according to the official website. The team competes at NCAA Division II level as a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and is based out of Big Rapids, Michigan according to information available on its official site.

Looking ahead, Ferris State’s scheduled non-league doubleheader against Lewis has been canceled. The Bulldogs will return home for games against Grand Valley State on April 11 followed by Purdue Northwest on April 12.
