Ferris State softball secures doubleheader sweep over Davenport in GLIAC

Ferris State University softball secured a doubleheader sweep against Davenport University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action at the FSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs emerged victorious with scores of 14-6 and 1-0 during Wednesday’s games.

In the first game, Ferris State was initially trailing 6-0 but made a significant comeback by scoring three runs in the second inning, eight runs in the third, and three runs in the fourth, ending the game with an impressive 17 hits compared to Davenport’s four.

Key contributions came from second baseman Jadyn Joseph, who recorded three hits, two RBIs, and scored twice. First baseman Alexis Kozlowski led with four RBIs and two hits. Other notable performances included two hits each from designated player Abby Meyer and catcher Emily Killion. Outfielders Emma Gillard and Maddie Gkekas, along with shortstop Bailey McCalister and right fielder Breanna Blair, also made noteworthy contributions with two hits apiece.

Ella Covill-Marter claimed the win, allowing two earned runs on two hits, striking out four, and walking three in four innings of relief work. Catherine O’Donohue pitched one inning, conceding two runs on two hits.

In the second game, despite Davenport achieving seven hits while restricting Ferris State to three, the Bulldogs scored the game’s only run in the first inning. Pitcher Cecilia Bell threw a complete-game shutout, her eighth win this season, allowing no runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

McCalister drove in the only run for Ferris State, contributing with a hit along with Meyer and right fielder Riley Kish.

The Bulldogs now hold a 23-13 overall record and a 12-8 standing in conference play. They are tied for second place in the GLIAC and are ranked among the region’s top 10 teams in the initial NCAA Division II Regional Rankings.

Ferris State’s final home games of the season against Wayne State are rescheduled to Tuesday, April 22, due to anticipated weather conditions. The day will include Senior Day festivities to honor the 2025 senior class.
