Ferris State softball loses doubleheader to Saginaw Valley State

Ferris State University’s softball team faced defeat in a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State University in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The games took place at the FSU Softball Field on Thursday, April 3. In the first game, Ferris State, with a record of 15-11 overall and 4-6 in the GLIAC, fell 10-1. Saginaw Valley State, boasting a 22-8 record and 9-1 in the conference, later secured an 8-0 victory in the second game.

During the first matchup, Ferris State managed only one run, courtesy of a triple by Emma Gillard, which brought home Jadyn Joseph. Catherine O’Donohue was the starting pitcher for Ferris State, allowing six earned runs over 1.1 innings, with Ella Covill-Marter stepping in for 3.2 innings, during which she conceded three earned runs.

Saginaw Valley’s offense produced ten hits and three errors, while pitcher Macy Irelan achieved a complete game, marking her ninth win this season. On the Ferris State side, Gillard’s triple and walks drawn by Joseph and Brooklyn Verbeek were notable contributions offensively.

In the second game, Cecelia Bell pitched a complete game for Ferris State, allowing seven earned runs and achieving two strikeouts. Ferris State managed only two hits overall, contributed by Joseph and Hanna Smith. In contrast, Saginaw Valley accumulated 11 hits, with Aalana Kimble excelling on the mound by firing a shutout with 12 strikeouts and aiding her win through her performance at bat with three hits.

Following these results, Ferris State is scheduled to play Roosevelt in a twin bill on April 5, with games at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. On April 6, they will face Wisconsin-Parkside in another doubleheader at the same times. Both matches will take place at their home field in Big Rapids.
