The Ferris State University softball team announced on Mar. 18 that its scheduled home opener against Saginaw Valley State, set for Saturday, March 21, has been postponed because of field conditions caused by recent weather.

The Bulldogs were preparing to begin both their home season and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at the FSU Softball Field in Big Rapids. However, the games will be rescheduled for a later date, which is yet to be determined.

According to the university’s announcement, “The two teams are currently working on a make-up date for the doubleheader, which will be announced soon.” The team also said that it still plans to host Wayne State on Sunday, March 22 at 1 p.m., if field conditions improve.

The Ferris State Bulldogs women’s softball program participates in both conference and non-conference games during its season, according to the official website. The program competes in NCAA Division II as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and operates from Big Rapids, Michigan according to the official website.

In addition to athletic competition, the program supports student-athletes in balancing academics and athletics while contributing to Ferris State University’s athletic tradition according to the official website.
