Ferris State University announced on April 29 that freshman pitcher Katie Shuboy has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.

This recognition highlights Shuboy’s recent performance, where she led her team with a 0.91 earned run average and achieved a perfect 3-0 record over the past week. She pitched a total of 23 innings across four appearances, including three complete games.

During these games, Shuboy allowed only three earned runs on 15 hits and recorded 13 strikeouts with four walks. In her final three outings last week, she pitched all seven innings each time, including a win against league leader Saginaw Valley State in which she did not allow an earned run. She also secured victories over Parkside and Roosevelt during weekend matchups that ended in identical 6-1 scores as Ferris State closed out the week with five consecutive wins.

The Ferris State Bulldogs women’s softball program participates in both conference and non-conference games throughout its season, according to the official website. The program supports student-athletes in balancing academic responsibilities while upholding the university’s athletic tradition, as reported by its official website. Competing at NCAA Division II level within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is central to their activities according to the official website.

Based in Big Rapids, Michigan according to its official website, Ferris State has now won nine of its last eleven games this year. The team will begin a four-game league series against Davenport at home on Friday with doubleheader action starting at 1 p.m. and then travel to face Davenport again Saturday before tentatively closing out their regular season with a makeup doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on Sunday.
