Eric Lilleboe, a Ferris State University men’s golf alumnus, has secured his second Michigan Open Championship. Lilleboe clinched the 107-year-old state title at Oakland University’s Katke-Cousins Golf Course with a six-under-par total, finishing four shots ahead of his competitors. This marks his second victory in this prestigious tournament, having previously won in 2019.

Currently competing in the PGA Tour Americas, which emerged from the merger of PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica, Lilleboe is now in his 12th year as a professional golfer. The Michigan Open, established in 1916 and first won by Leo Diegel, remains one of the state’s longest-standing golf events.

Lilleboe completed his college career at Ferris State University in 2010. During his time there, he achieved an average of 73.67 strokes per round over 103 rounds and earned numerous accolades including the Division II Men’s Golf PING All-America First-Team selection for the 2009-10 season. He was also named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Men’s Golf “Athlete of the Year” for two seasons.

Among other notable winners of the Michigan Open are Walter Hagen and Scott Hebert, another Ferris State alum who shares the record for most titles with Al Watrous at six each. Chuck Kocsis, a legendary amateur golfer from Michigan who played on three Walker Cup teams, also claimed three titles during his career.
