City earns 42nd consecutive excellence in financial reporting award

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The City of Grand Rapids has achieved the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) “Excellence in Financial Reporting Award” for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. This marks the 42nd consecutive year the City has received this prestigious award.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.,” Michele Mark Levine, GFOA director, technical services center, wrote in the award notification letter. “The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”Max Frantz, Grand Rapids’ comptroller, said, “This 42nd consecutive award demonstrates the continued outcomes we work to provide Grand Rapids residents with and is recognition of the great effort put forth by the Comptroller department team and all City employees that collaborate and strive for government excellence in financial reporting to the public.

”Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities it serves.
